Saying Yes More Often

Your comfort zone is cozy, but nothing grows there.

For years, I thought saying “no” was a form of self-preservation. No to the book show, no to the last-minute road trip, no to submitting that audition. I told myself I was being practical. In reality, I was choosing safe over possibility.

Now don’t get me wrong. Sometimes we should say no. Life can be overwhelming and we need a break, but for me, I was using “no” as an excuse because I was afraid.

The first time I made a conscious decision to say “yes” more often, it wasn’t some grand life overhaul. It was one small yes at a time. Yes to grabbing coffee with someone I’d just met. Yes to speaking at a book event though it terrified me. Yes to getting in the car for a solo three-hour drive to see one of favorite artists live.

And you know what happened?

Life started feeling bigger.

More colorful.

Like it was happening to me instead of just around me.

Why saying yes matters:

  • It opens doors you didn’t even know existed. A stranger at the coffee shop could be your future business partner or lifelong friend.

  • It rewires your brain for possibility. Every yes proves you can handle the unknown.

  • It turns autopilot into adventure. Suddenly your week isn’t just a blur of to-dos — it’s a story you actually want to tell.

A challenge for you:

Over the next 7 days, say yes to one thing you’d usually decline. It doesn’t have to be huge — an invite to lunch, a hobby you’ve always been curious about. An event you’ve been wanting to go to.

Because sometimes the push you need isn’t hiding in the perfectly sought out plan… it’s standing just outside your comfort zone, waiting for you to say yes.

The women in my books often start their journey with a single yes — to a new city, a daring career move, or a romance they didn’t see coming. If you’re ready to be inspired by characters who take chances and find joy in the unexpected, you’ll feel right at home in their stories.
