Surviving Long Nights and Red Eye Flights

The countdown has begun. Jessica and I booked our annual girls trip months in advance and it’s crazy to think there’s less than one week left until we’re sailing the Mediterranean! She’s way more worldly than I am, so although I’m a tad bit anxious to travel into the unfamiliar, I’m beyond excited for the experience.

My checklist is slowly shrinking, but my carry on is filling up. With an 8 hour overnight flight to Barcelona, I want to make sure I have everything I need to make it through. My longest direct flight was about 6 hours from New York to California and even though it wasn’t too bad watching the in flight movies, I certainly could’ve prepared a little better. So, this time I did my research and I’ve detailed all the goodies in my carry on.

Refillable Water Bottle

It’s important to stay hydrated during travel and I think having a water bottle on hand may help remind me to drink up. I’m going to fill it up at the airport before I board and top it off during in flight beverage service.

Kindle and Notebook

I’m bringing one for a little inspiration and the other to hopefully spill more of my novel out between the covers of my journal. I figured the plane is really the perfect place to write. There really isn’t room for many distractions.

My last flight to Myrtle Beach, I was on a Heartland addiction and I figured out that you can actually download some shows from Netflix to watch offline. You will have to download them prior to takeoff though as you do need internet access to do so.

Portable Charger

Another really important tool I have on hand is a portable phone charger. Not all airlines have outlets, so I want to be prepared. Watching Netflix may help pass the time, but it will also drains my battery.

I read somewhere online to make sure I pack a Pashmina. This wasn’t even on my radar, but I think it’s genius. Not only can the pashmina be used as a blanket if I get chilly, but I can also twist it and place around my neck for a pillow. On top of that, I also watched some YouTube videos of ways to wear them while on the ship. I bought 2 of them off Amazon and am ready to put them to use.

I pretty much eat every 2 hours, so 8 hours on a plane with no food would make this girl hangry. That’s why I plan on packing some granola bars, a banana, crackers and nut packets for when my stomach starts growling.

Beauty Products

Lots of travel bloggers have talked about how important it is to stick with your nighttime routine while on an overnight flight. I don’t want my skin to freak out, so I packed a few of my nighttime items. Along with my toothpaste and toothbrush, I have my face wash, face mask and lavender face mist for when it’s time to sleep.

I also have eye mask on my list, but haven’t actually bought one yet. What do you guys think? Should I or shouldn’t I?

Have you ever flown on a red eye? What are your favorite carry on must haves?

Stay tuned in the coming weeks for more travel tips and recaps!

City Living – Bathroom Organization

City living can sometimes mean minimal space. I’ve been in my apartment now for about 8 months and I’m still trying to figure out how to fit everything in it. This past weekend I continued trying to organize my life. Last week was the pantry, this week… the bathroom.

I don’t have a linen closet and my drawers and countertop were overflowing with all of my things, so I decided it was time to do something about it! Being on a budget, I needed to get creative, so I spent zero dollars. I just took things I had lying around the house and I have to admit, I’m pretty happy with the outcome!

My everyday toiletries are normally set out on top of my counter. Things fall over into the sink while the water is running and it’s all a bit mess. I wanted to clean in up, so here’s what I did. I took 2 chargers that I wasn’t using from my kitchen and a large mason jar. I stacked them together and filled in the space with all my toiletries. I used leftover mason jars from the kitchen to keep things in one place like my hairties, tweezers and q-tips.

Now, my counter is clear and I still have easy access to my everyday items. Not to much, it matches perfectly with my beach theme!

Through a Writer’s Eyes

2017, you came in like a lion and went out like one too. You were rough. You challenged my spirit and made me question my life’s path. At times you knocked me down, but at the same time, you reignited my passion. You brought out my strength and made me believe that I can be whoever it is I choose to be.

In 2017, I put writing on the back burner. For whatever reason, I just didn’t have it in me. Days and weeks would pass when I didn’t write a word. I kept using time as the problem by saying that I didn’t have enough of it. The truth though was that I did have time. I just had more excuses. I didn’t want it bad enough. I needed a break.

This week, as I sit down to reflect on my goals, I can feel it. I can feel the fire slowly burning inside of me. I want to write again. I want to finish the story I started two years ago and then… I want to write more. I want to create more stories for people to escape to. I want to write about life, adventure, love and truth.

Along with those words, I want to show the world through the eyes of a writer. How I interpret what I see around me. Where my inspiration comes from. The way words heal my soul and how I escape when it becomes too much.

So, if you’d like to tag along, you’re in the right place. I’ll be writing all about the journey here and you can subscribe below!

2018, I can see it now. You’re going to be the best year yet!

Only Time Will Tell

Saying goodbye is never easy and time is a fragile thing. Sometimes you just run out of it and you know as well as I do, there’s no way to get it back.

I needed a few more minutes to say goodbye to someone this past week, so I bought some with a last minute road trip to Columbus, OH. I’ve never been to Columbus, but I had Sam as an amazing tour guide and got to explore so many things. One of them was United Dairy Farmers where you can get ice cream 24 hours a day! I’m going to pause for a minute and let that sink in. Yes, that is real life. Ice cream 24/7.

And, after our adventure through Flower Child Vintage, I am really contemplating buying a typewriter. This shop had never ending rooms of nostalgia. This was one of the many typewriters they had. My desire to bring back letter writing is at an all time high.

I also tried my very first Buckeye candy in the historical German Village neighborhood. There were brick roads at every turn. It had such charm and I wanted to get lost in it for hours. I probably would’ve, but I was hungry and dinner was calling my name.

IMG_0742He was such a good sport to let me take a photo in front of the little gift shop on the corner where he bought me my first ever Buckeye.

On top of eating, a lot, I also did a bit of shopping and got myself a new workout tank from Homage. I figured why not get a little keepsake to remember this trip. The only problem… I wore it the other day as I was crossing the pedestrian bridge in Nashville and someone shouted out O-H. It wasn’t until after a long pause followed by someone else’s echo of I-O that I realized they were talking to me. Oops… sorry Ohio. In that moment I failed you.

On our last night in town we went to the Columbus Clippers game and Sam caught the most perfect sunset on camera.

Then, before we said our goodbyes, I got to see his new neighborhood bar. I could tell he felt at home already.

I’m a huge advocate for going after your dreams. I truly believe you have to fulfill your own goals and be happy with who you are first before you can fully give yourself to anyone else. So, as hard as it was to hug him goodbye and get on the airplane back to Nashville, I find solace in knowing he’s happy in Ohio. He’s excited for what comes next and I’m excited for him.

It’s very possible that this is where our fairy tale ends. That Columbus is the final chapter in our story. And if that is the case, I’d like to think that in the time we had, we wrote a hell of chapter in this book I call my life.

What happens from here? Only time will tell.

What Do You Love?

First Official Quotes and Coffee Newsletter!

Today is an exciting day for me! A few weeks ago I took an impromptu trip to Pigeon Forge, TN. It was there, swinging on the front porch that I thought long and hard about who I was and who I wanted to be.

quotes and coffee2I kept asking myself, “what do you want to do with your life? What do you love?” So many things came to my head. I love to inspire people. I love to share my favorite places and things. I love spending my mornings at coffee shops creating stories, poems and songs. I love writing novels and creating love stories that didn’t exist before I put it on paper.

So many answers, but the real answer was hiding in them all. What did I love? I loved to write. I loved to inspire people through words. I loved to share my favorite places through words. I loved to sit and coffee shops and write tons and tons of words.

There, with the morning breeze blowing through the porch of my little cabin that morning, an idea came to fruition and today, it came to life. The very first edition of Quotes and Coffee. My new weekly newsletter!

Better Than That

You and me we had it all and each day it only got better. But one day you up and walked away because you thought there was something else out there. Now here you are standing right in front me just like the day you said goodbye. But this time, your down on your knees and you’re begging me to give this one more try.

How dare you think that I would ever settle for being somebody’s second best. Somebody’s I guess she’ll do for now or until the next one comes along.

I gave you the best that I had. I gave you the best of me and you can’t have that back. Sorry can’t replace the mess you made. I damn well deserve better than that.

Embrace the Now

I can’t believe that more than half of 2015 has already passed. Time really does fly by when you’re having fun. Lately I’ve been doing a lot of thinking about life and all the plans I’ve been making. October is going to be an exciting month for me, I have a lot of travel plans and get to see some of my dearest friends. I’m really looking forward to it, because I feel like I spent a lot of September wishing.

I wished for the moment when I’d finally find “the one.”

I wished for the moment when I would find the job of my dreams.

I wished for next summer and a cross country road trip I’m thinking about taking

I wished for the day I might get married and start a family

But, then I realized, as wonderful as all of those things would be, that when I wish for them to come, when I wish for those days, that I am wishing away all the time and memories in between. Getting married and having a family means one day I’ll have to say goodbye to this beautiful little townhouse of mine that I’ve worked so hard to decorate and make my own.

Finding “the one” means even though we’ll create memories of my own, I’d have to say goodbye to spontaneous friend vacations, me trips and waking up and being selfish and doing for Courtney 100% of the time. And to be honest, right now, I’m not ready to do that. I like my life the way it is right now.

And wishing for my road trip to come now means speeding through the holidays, professional cheerleading season, coaching my little ones through cheerleading and all the fun, exciting things that may happen along the way.

Yes, someday is fun to think about. And it is fun to hope for, but we never know when it may come, so until then, I have to remember to cherish what I do have and love my life for what it is now, not tomorrow.

We ride together.... My boo #instagood #instadaily #ilovemydog #themoreboysimeet #roadtrip #twinning #nashville #clt

Lights, Camera… Nashville!

This past weekend I waved goodbye to the Queen City and my favorite furry friend and road tripped it to country music city for a role in a music video! One of my best friends was able to make the trip with me so we made a long weekend out of it and had a little fun. For country music lovers like us, we were in paradise. Here’s a little inside look at our Nashville fun!

We got in Friday and headed downtown to meet some friends for dinner at Demo’s. The food was so good and our awesome waiter Austin made the experience even better!

After dinner we headed to the famous Bluebird Cafe. bluebird2There was a line to get in, but we of course had to snap a few pictures just to say we were there. I tried to scope out the scene for Charles Esten or Sam Palladio, but no luck!

bluebird  We were up bright and early Saturday morning for hair and makeup before we headed to Blue Bar and Rack Room to shoot Philip Claypool’s “Three More Beers” music video. It was an awesome experience and so much fun. Can’t wait to see the finished product!

And once work was over, it was time to play! We made or rounds to downtown, Opryland and topped the night off with some seriously good sushi from Lucky Belly. It was such a fun weekend and we can’t wait to come back this summer!!

We got to spend some time at the Opryland Resort today ... What an amazing place! #nashville #musiccity #opryland #girlstrip
